AZAN: A CALL TO PRAYER
Fazaila is a Shia-Muslim teenager from East London whose mum thinks she's becoming "too English". This new short documentary, a first-film by 19 year-old Heena Bukhari, is a personal exploration into being female and Muslim in Britain today by looking at the life of her younger cousin.

The film was produced by Redcurrent Films as part of our drive to encourage and nurture new and emerging film talent, and was wholly funded by Film London's "Pulse Digital Shorts" scheme.

"...teenager Fazaila Bukhari, living in London's East End, has no trouble with her place in British society but her tolerant immigrant parents find her views hard to accept. With some good photography in the parks and the market, we follow her rational reasoning and resistance to her parents. There's interesting dialogue in which her own talk is overlaid with her own VO. Considering the present political tensions vis-a-vis the Muslim faith this story is a very gentle put down on the less tolerant. A thoroughly well made little flick."
